Up To

Reading
~600 books on my Sony Reader, but actively reading:

Making
Soapstone Sculptures! I'll post photos of some of the finished pieces on Sunday, per the Increased Output pledge.

Trying
At my last facial, my, er, facialist, told me that I should try using something other than my St. Ives Medicated Apricot Scrub because it can be really harsh on the skin. So, I tried replacing that, and the Oil of Olay facial cleansing cloths with Clean & Clear Daily Pore Cleanser + Clean & Clear Daily Pore Toner but I completely started breaking out, so I re-added the Apricot Scrub, which has gotten it back under control. I'll probably stick with what I know re: the scrub, but I need to get a different cleanser than the cloths because they aren't nearly as convenient. Alas, I'm not especially impressed with the new cleanser, so I'm looking for something else.

Also trying out a tube of 10% Benzoil Peroxide, but that may not be necessary now that I'm back on the Apricot Scrub and the breakouts have abated.

Increased Output

I have trouble committing to things, mostly because of the self-knowledge that I am terrible with follow through. This wasn't always the case. I used to get excited about high-output challenges (like NaNoWriMo for example), but inevitably failed at it. Perhaps it was the extreme goal (50,000 words in one month), or the disconnect between the idea and the reality (writing 1,500 coherent words per day is HARD and NOT FUN). Even so, I feel like I could (and want to!) be doing more.

So, I'm going to start small.

I'm going to produce one small piece of art per week for a month. Four works. That means, that by Sunday evening, I'll post a picture of the work, completed or not, drop it and move on to the next piece. The goal is output. If, at the end of the month, I'm not completely bored and hate it, then I may (*may*) renew for the next month. Or I may move on to something else entirely.

So, that's it. That's my "one per week for a month" challenge.

Wish me luck.

LyricWiki

For all you disappointed e2ers who had their lyrics writeups deleted, there is LyricWiki. Go, contribute.

Update: The reason your contribution would be meaningful is that there are several media player song lyric plug-ins that depend on LyricWiki for their content. Right now, LyricWiki's song coverage is thinner than it could be, thus making those plug-ins less useful.

 Kendall: heh. oops... ;)
  sorry
 me: hehe
  In the garbage it goes
11:57 AM on the bright side, the peas are fine
 Kendall: whew ;)

Update (via email):

Scott: Are you throwing away wonderful and delicious cream-style corn? You are crazy. I want cream-style corn!

me: You may come over and pick up 3 cans of cream-style corn at your convenience. I will fish them out of the garbage for you.

Scott: YAY! Garbage corn!

Facebook

Facebook has surprised me with the sheer variety of people I have found on it. So far, people fall into the following groups:
  • My Family
  • Kendall's Family
  • Grand Rapids Friends (three distinct groups)
  • Everything2 People
  • Ann Arbor Friends (there is some overlap with E2 people here)
  • Puerto Rico Friends/Classmates
So far, I have found not a single person from my two years of high school in Orlando. My high school isn't even a group. It feels strangely dream-like.

Flock at Work!

Finally able to download Flock. Looks great.

Yay!:
  • Built in Blog Editor. Works with most platforms, and allows relatively easy cross-posting.
  • Built in checker of email and social networking sites.
  • Integrates del.icio.us links into the browser.
  • Seems pretty light-weight.
  • Many Firefox add-ons just work.
Boo!:
  • Can't change the URLs used by the "Account" shortcuts, or any of the shortcuts. They all point to redir.flock.com using http:// which my employer blocks. https:// works fine most of the time though, so I would love to point to that instead, but it doesn't seem to be possible to change it.
  • Feed reader rather sucks compared to Google Reader.
  • Flashblock add-on does NOT work.
Otherwise:
  • Someone found my wallet! They found me on Facebook, which I never update, but which my employer does not happen to block (they block MySpace, but I wouldn't be caught dead in there anyway).
  • I set up a Twitter feed. Even though I can't update it directly (blocked), there is a GChat bridge that I can send IM to.

Test?

I just installed Flock, and I'm experimenting with crossposting on Blogger and LJ at the same time. We'll see if this works.

Does it work?
